Convert Video - Convert video from one format to another


Description:
Convert Video is an ffmpeg-based batch video converter that lets you quickly reformat video files for editing, playback or sharing. You can choose from a wide range of output formats, adjust quality using simple presets or custom settings, change resolution and frame rate, and optionally use GPU hardware acceleration where supported. Output files can be written alongside the source or to a dedicated folder, and overwrite behaviour is fully configurable.

How to use:

  1. Add input files:
    Click Browse Files to select one or more video files, or Add Folder to add all videos from a folder. You can also drag and drop files or folders into the Input Files list. Use Remove to delete selected entries from the list, or Clear All to start fresh.

  2. Select the output format:
    In the Format dropdown, choose the target container/format, such as: MP4, AVI, WMV, WebM, FLV, MKV, MOV, 3GP, 3G2, ASF, DV, F4V, GIF, MPEG, MPG, MXF, OGV, TS, VOB and others, depending on codec support in ffmpeg. MP4 is usually a good default for general playback and sharing.

  3. Choose a quality preset or custom settings:
    In Quality, select:
    • High Quality (Slow) – best visual quality, slower encoding, larger files.
    • Medium Quality (Balanced) – balanced quality and speed (recommended default).
    • Low Quality (Fast) – smaller files and faster encoding, lower quality.
    • Custom – allows advanced users to apply their own ffmpeg parameters (as defined in the desktop app).
    Quality presets are tuned for typical use cases so most users will not need to adjust codec details.

  4. Set resolution and frame rate:
    In Resolution, choose:
    • Keep Original – keep the source resolution.
    • 480p (854×480)
    • 720p (1280×720)
    • 1080p (1920×1080)
    • 1440p (2560×1440)
    • 4K (3840×2160)

    In Frame Rate, choose:
    • Keep Original – preserve the source frame rate.
    • Common options such as 23.976 fps, 24 fps, 25 fps, 29.97 fps, 30 fps, 50 fps or 60 fps.
    Lower resolutions and frame rates reduce file size and encoding time; higher values preserve more detail and smoothness.

  5. Select hardware acceleration (optional):
    In Hardware Acceleration, choose:
    • None (CPU only) – use software encoding.
    • NVIDIA NVENC – use supported NVIDIA GPUs.
    • Intel Quick Sync – use compatible Intel integrated graphics.
    • AMD AMF – use supported AMD GPUs.
    Hardware acceleration can greatly improve encoding speed where supported by your hardware and drivers.

  6. Configure output location and overwrite behaviour:
    In the Output section:
    • Tick Same folder as source file to save converted videos beside their originals.
    • Or leave this unticked and specify an Output Folder using Browse to send all output files to a central location.
    • Tick Overwrite existing files if you want to replace any files with the same name in the output location; leave it unticked to avoid accidental replacement.

  7. Convert:
    Confirm that ffmpeg and ffprobe are detected in the status line (for example "Ready, FFmpeg and FFprobe detected."), then click Convert. The Progress bar and status text show progress across the batch. Once complete, review the output folder and test a few files in your preferred player or editor.

  • Same folder vs dedicated output: Saving next to the source simplifies quick conversions; a dedicated folder suits structured workflows, automation and large projects.

  • Overwrite existing files: Useful when re-running a conversion with better settings, but best left off when you want to preserve previous outputs.
